There is a concept in economics called the law of diminishing returns, and the basic premise of this concept is that the more you use something or do a particular activity, the less joy that this would end up giving you. If you think about it with an objective enough frame of mind, you would notice this applying to various aspects of your own life as well in some way, shape or form. For example, going to a bar every single day will be a lot less enjoyable than doing it once a week or so, but this phenomenon often doesn’t have to relate as closely to psychological factors as it does in this particular case at any given point in time.

A big part of the reason why that is the case has to do with the fact that diminishing returns are often a byproduct of lack of maintenance on your part with respect to anything and everything that you are currently trying to take advantage of. If we were to take the example of carpet cleaning, diminishing returns sometimes occur because you have not taken sufficient steps to clean your carpet out thereby making it look so old that you would never want to continue using it at all.

Suffice it to say that cleaning your carpet with the hot water extraction method is the single most effective solution for making an old carpet look brand new. The frayed and compressed fibers will start to fluff back up again, and what’s more is that they will be rid of any dirt and bacteria that would have been thriving within them as well all in all.
